Here, the deep sand and thick bush doesn’t slow down the spirit of adventure that the Maputo Special Reserve offers you. Without a big effort, in our specialized vehicle, you will find the vast open areas, where Elephants refresh themselves with long mud baths.

Huge fresh water lagoons nourish a great variety of birds, host the laziness of the Hippos and complete the scenery for the jumps and runs of several Antelope Species.

  • Our guide will pick you up early morning at your accommodation. A light breakfast will be served on board of our vehicle.
  • We will cross the ferry boat to the South side of Maputo Bay called Catembe. In case the ferry boat has a long waiting period we will drive around the Maputo Bay towards Catembe.
  • We will carry on our trip towards the Reserve, passing in the small village of Salamanga, where you will have the opportunity to visit a local bread factory and an Hindu temple (optional stop).
  • The expected time of arrival at the Reserve gates, is between 08.30 Am – 09.00 Am, or earlier.
  • As we drive along the Reserve you will discover the unique aspects of the wild and its magnificent ecosystems filled with rich and extraordinary biomes.
  • We will stop around 12.30 Pm – 1.00 Pm for a Lunch nearby a beautiful lagoon.
  • After lunch we will drive towards the Reserve gates and start to head back to Maputo. We expect to arrive back between 06.00 Pm (delays may occur). Our guide will drop you off at your accommodation.

RECOMENDATIONS

Maputo Special Reserve is a wild place. We provide all the necessary equipment to enjoy a remote area with all the safety.

We recommend you to bring along comfortable clothing with neutral colours. A winter jacket is recommended during the dry season, when it is a bit colder (April to October). Hat, sunscreen and sunglasses is advisable;

Mabeco Tours provides our valued guest with binoculars for the observation of wildlife. We encourage you to bring your preferred binoculars and also your photographic equipment, in order to capture the wonders of nature;
